It was amazing to meet people who were inspired by my talk. Its lovely the people we connect with when we are open, honest and vulnerable. I was touched when a woman ran up to me crying and she gave me a warm hug after my talk. There was a powerful connection between us. She said, that she could relate to my struggles with body image and rejection. We are more alike than we are different. Her words made my day!
I think having a positive body image is important. We are always reminded of our bodies. We cannot escape ourselves. We need to embrace and accept our bodies. Unfortunately, media, peers and our family members sometimes can make us even more aware of our bodies by failing to support a positive body image.
For many years, people were telling me who I should be and how I should look. I realized that I was headed down the wrong path by trying to fit a false standard of beauty. I decided that I was not going to change myself to succeed. My beauty is not defined by my size. I am more than just a model. I choose to define myself. Never let anyone define who you are. Its up to you to define yourself.
